A 20 year old pre-med student at Indiana University and his proud parents found themselves in a very precarious situation. While out on bond for multiple charges of both armed robbery and burglary, he found himself accused of yet another armed robbery. This time, however, the evidence was not circumstantial. When the police arrested him within 2 minutes of the 9-1-1 call that a delivery man had been robbed at gun point of two dollar bills by two black men on bicycles, one wearing a red shirt and one wearing a white shirt…our client was spotted by police on a bicycle wearing a red shirt. To make matters worse, when our client fled from the police he was quickly tackled. In his possession was a gun and two one dollar bills. The victim quickly identified our client. At trial our client even admitted to participating in the robbery. In spite of these horrific facts, a jury found our client not guilty in just over an hour. How in the world does that happen? Experience and Teamwork.
The true story above is a terrific example of what can happened when teamwork and experience collide. Every lawyer in the firm participated in the brainstorming of that case, as did several paralegals. Our big problem was with our client’s testimony. He was too nervous and not believable, even though we knew he was telling the truth. It took then-associate lawyer Kathie Perry to crack the code. Somehow our client really responded to Kathie as they worked together in the Monroe County Indiana jail. Those results paid off, obviously, as our client was terrific on the stand and the jury loved him and believed his really unbelievable story.
Our firm has also had burglary and armed robbery charges dismissed, as well as other trial victories. Our experience and teamwork, in our opinion is unparalleled. When you combine our 90+ years of combined experience in handing burglary and armed robbery charges, along with our aggressive style and trial reputation, then our clients all may be in the position to receive an unexpected outcome like our client in the story above. Well, unexpected to everyone but our Criminal Defense Team.
