Background
Since graduating from law school in 2005, although there are no statistics, it would be hard not to believe that Ted Adams has tried more criminal juries as a privately retained counsel then any new lawyer during that same time frame, including the successful defense of a man charged with homicide in Fort Wayne. His work ethic is not surprising. Before becoming a lawyer, Ted Adams held a variety of jobs, including janitor, fork-lift operator, landscaper and factory worker. His rapport with citizens from all walks of life helps make him a very effective litigator.
Ted started his legal career in prosecuting crimes before he joined The Criminal Defense Team. Ted served as a certified legal intern working with the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office during his final year at Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis, while studying for the Indiana Bar Exam. Having nearly the same responsibilities as a sworn deputy prosecuting attorney, Ted Adams gained early valuable trial and practical legal experience, including trying his very first jury trial while still a law student.
Upon graduation, and already armed with jury trial experience, Ted Adams was hired by the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office. During his tenure as a deputy prosecuting attorney, Ted prosecuted a high percentage of the misdemeanor and DUI charges filed in Johnson County, primarily as the deputy prosecutor in Greenwood City Court. Ted was a very pesky and effective prosecutor, causing long-time criminal defense attorney Andrew Baldwin to remark “I’d rather have Ted working for us, then against us.” Ted was hired by Baldwin in April 2006 as an associate with the firm.
Ted was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 11, 1978. He lived in or around the Fort Wayne area until he left for Indianapolis, IN to attend law school in 2002. Ted attended undergraduate school at Indiana Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), were he majored in history.
Upon graduation from his undergraduate studies in December of 2001, Ted Adams worked full-time as a forklift operator in a local Fort Wayne factory, Foamex, and additionally interned at the Allen County Probation Department in an effort to save money for law school. After nine months of working, Ted Adams began law school at the Indiana School of Law – Indianapolis in the September of 2002, and graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in May of 2005.
Ted has exclusively been practicing criminal defense or related matters since April of 2006. Ted’s time in the prosecutor’s office was valuable, but at heart he was a criminal defense lawyer. He is a passionate advocate for the firm’s clients. Ted’s dedication and value to the firm earned him a partnership with The Criminal Defense Team, and on April 25, 2009 he was made full partner. Ted Adams has practiced law all around Indiana, concentrating in Johnson, Shelby, Brown, Bartholomew, Marion, Morgan, and Monroe Counties. Ted has also practiced back in his old stomping grounds of Allen, Wells, and Whitley Counties, including lead counsel in a high profile case involving a client charged with homicide in Fort Wayne.
When not defending citizens charged with criminal offenses, Ted Adams enjoys spending time with his long-time best friend and wife, Alecia. (married December 22, 2007). Currently having no children of their own, Ted’s basset hound, Mollie Mae, and Alecia’s cat, Muffin, act as their children. Ted Adams enjoys satisfying his inner-historian by reading non-fiction books, especially books on World War II. Also a history major, Alecia Adams enjoys reading and discussing many of the same topics as Ted, and the couple can often be found playing trivia in local eateries. Ted is also an avid (some would say rabid) fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
